FOR SALE: Jimmy Bruno's personal BENEDETTO Benny-7 (Prototype of current production guitar)
Jimmy playing the Benny-7 at Birdland with Bobby Watson
Mel Bay's "Jazz Virtuoso" Cover
This is a rare opportunity to purchase the very first Benedetto "Benny-7" model ever made. It was custom built for jazz guitar legend JIMMY BRUNO, at the time the leading Benedetto endorser. Constructed personaly by Bob prior to entering into his license agreement with Fender Musical Instruments, this instrument was presented to Jimmy in 1998. Jimmy subsequently used it as a giging and recording instrument for the next several years. It can be heard on the Live at Birdland CD's and his Midnight Blue release on Concord.
The instrument matches the standard dimensions found on the $7000.00 version made by Benedetto's Fender Custom Shop: 141/2" chambered mahogany body with a carved select sitka spruce top. It has an ebony fingerboard, bridge and tailpiece. The tailpiece is engraved "Jimmy Bruno." The neck scale is 25". The finish is transparent claret. There is a removable Roland GK-2A synthesizer bridge pickup installed on the deck.
Jimmy used this instrument in many clubs and at many concerts, and traveled with it extensively. It shows signs of road life, with small dings, scratches and a chip on the lower top bout. The is a very small (1/2") vertical crack in the back neck just below the headstock that neither effects playability or sound. Like all Benny's it has an absolutely uncanny resemblance to an archtop when amplified. The finish is a transparent claret.
